Match Report vs Comets
Monday 2nd June

WAIBOP Matarau’s third clash of the season saw them take on Comets in a thrilling, hard fought battle that came down to the final whistle.

Matarau had the advantage of welcoming Magic shooter Kate Taylor for the first half, and she made her presence felt immediately - slotting goals with precision and slotting seamlessly into the attacking unit. The first quarter was neck and neck, with Comets edging ahead 15–14. The second quarter saw Matarau hit their stride, dominating play and outscoring Comets 20–9 to head into halftime with a confident 34–24 lead.

The tide turned in the third quarter as Comets lit up the scoreboard from distance, landing seven two-pointers in a dominant 25–13 run. Their sharp shooting flipped the game on its head, with Comets snatching a 50–47 lead heading into the final quarter.

Matarau's defence stepped up in the fourth, shutting down the long shot and holding Comets even at 15–15 for the quarter. But despite the late effort, it wasn’t quite enough to claw back the lead.

Final score: Comets 65, Matarau 62. A narrow loss, but a well earned bonus point for Matarau and plenty of positives to take forward.
