Netball Waikato Bay of Plenty (WBOP) Zone is entering an exciting new chapter. After a period under the administration of Netball New Zealand (NNZ), the Zone is thriving, financially sustainable, and preparing to return to independent governance in 2026.

This milestone was marked at the Netball WBOP Zone Forum held on Saturday 18 October 2025 at East Bay REAP in Whakatāne. It was a fantastic day that brought together Centres, Zone personnel, and guest speakers for plenty of laughter, connection, and shared learning that reflected how strong and connected the netball community has become.

The day concluded with a Special General Meeting, where members unanimously adopted the new Netball WBOP Zone Constitution which includes a transition plan for Netball WBOP Zone to move out from NNZ administration no later than 14 days after the next Annual General Meeting (AGM) in March 2026.

From 2026, the Netball WBOP Zone Board will comprise two elected Board Members, two appointed Board Members selected by an independent Board Appointment Panel, and one NNZ-appointed Board Member, ensuring strong and future-focused governance with a balance of local and national perspectives.

Applications are now open for the two appointed Board Member roles, with the Zone seeking committed leaders ready to guide its next phase of growth and community impact.

Notice of the Netball WBOP Zone AGM has been sent to members, including nomination forms for the two elected Board Member positions. The AGM will be held on Sunday, 29 March 2026, at the Sir Don Rowlands Centre, Mighty River Domain, Karapiro, with the new Board beginning leadership within 14 days.

Netball WBOP Zone supports around 27,000 netballers, coaches, umpires, and officials across Waikato, Bay of Plenty, and Gisborne, working closely with 23 Netball Centres to strengthen a connected and capable netball system.

The Zone acknowledges and thanks NNZ for its leadership and oversight during the period of administration, and hope that many of the established systems, structures and connections will continue. NNZ’s support — alongside strong collaboration with Centres — has provided a solid platform for rebuilding.

Returning to independent governance is a significant and positive step forward. The future is bright, and this next chapter is just getting started.
