WBOP Matarau delivered a convincing 72-49 win over the Comets in Round 3 of the National Netball League, continuing to build momentum with a strong all-round performance at Claudelands Arena in Hamilton.
Matarau set the tone early to lead 17-11 at quarter time, extending that advantage to 33-22 by halftime. Their speed and timing through the court stood out, with fluid connections at the attacking end making it difficult for the Comets to disrupt their flow.
That cohesion carried into the second half, with Matarau maintaining control to lead 50-38 at the final break before closing out the match strongly.
The side welcomed AVIS Magic players Losa Fifita and Brookly Murray, who slotted in seamlessly during the first half. Sophie Reeves showed her versatility, starting at GK before shifting to WD in the second half, applying strong pressure to finish with two gains and five deflections.
Jade Kawhe produced a standout performance in the shooting circle, including six successful two-point shots from seven attempts.
With fewer on-court changes than previous weeks, Matarau were able to build consistency across the full 60 minutes. It was another step forward for the team, with a result that strengthens their position should standings come down to points differential.
WBOP Matarau now turn their attention to Central Manawa, with the two sides set to meet on Saturday 6 June at Claudelands Arena.
