A home game for Round 6 saw our WBOP Beko team head to Te Aroha to take on the Northern Comets.
With the Northern Comets sitting in last place on the table, it was always going to be a tough game as it was expected the away team would come out fighting with nothing to lose, and the home team coming off a bye-weekend.
A frantic start to the first quarter set the tone for the game. The defensive structures of the Comets proved difficult for the WBOP team to combat, with numerous missed opportunities to score from valuable ball.
A solid game from Khiarna Williams in the shooting circle shooting 33 from 36, proved crucial as Comets built pressure and pegged back goals, particularly in the last quarter.
The inclusion of Abigail Latu-Meafou into the home team from Magic, was welcomed as she provided leadership and strength in the attack end.
While the momentum of the game ebbed and flowed between the two teams, WBOP were able to grind out the win and score when they needed to.
A messy win, however a win none the less. Four from four, with an away game next on the cards as the team travel south to Christchurch to verse Mainland.
