The NZU21 team have been crowned world youth netball champions after beating their trans-Tasman rivals, Australia, in a thrilling championship final in Glasgow.

 They held their composure in a thrilling second half where Australia surged a number of times before finishing strongly to claim the world youth crown, winning 52-47 early Sunday morning.

There were jubilant scenes from the Kiwi team when the final whistles blew as they celebrated with family and supporters in the crowd.

“We’re really overwhelmed,” captain Storm Purvis said after the match.  “We’re bringing home the gold medal.”

New Zealand looked to have the final under control when they led 46-38 with just under nine minutes to go in the fourth quarter.
