After coming in for their Captains run at 8am on Sunday morning the team spent the rest of the day together in the lead up to their game at 2.05pm. The atmosphere and vibe within the group was positive and upbeat which showed how great the team culture is.
WBOP started the first quarter with a bang scoring six goals in a row, after 5 or so minutes the score was 6 – 1 to WBOP. The Marvels made some adjustments to their game and forced some errors along with some goals missed goals allowed the Marvels to score 7 in a row. From there the remainder of the quarter was tight with the Marvels securing a 1 goal lead going into the first break.
Quarter score: 12 – 13 to Marvels
The second quarter saw the injection of Liza Ball into GK who ended up with 3 intercepts and 1 rebound. Kate Taylor finished the quarter shooting 9 goals out of 10 but we also witnessed a few errors creeping in from WBOP allowing the Marvels to go into the half time break leading by two.
Half time score: 25 – 27 to Marvels
WBOP began the third quarter with 5 errors giving the Marvels a run of 6 goals. The defence end of Monica Faumui and Liza Ball helped the team stay in touch by getting 4 defensive rebounds and 3 intercepts.
Three quarter score: 33 – 38 to Marvels
In the final quarter there were a few more errors made allowing Marvels to push out to a 10 goal lead, but with a few positional adjustments to the line-up and Kaiya Kepa coming into the game at WD we saw WBOP gain many intercepts closing the gap rapidly. Overall it was a very exciting game to watch with WBOP grinding hard for the entire match.
