Round 9 saw the WaiBOP Beko side travel to Gore to take on the South team, for the final away game of the season.
With both sides coming off wins in Round 8, this game was touted to be a close, tight game. However, the WaiBOP team had other ideas.
The first quarter saw the WaiBOP team come storming out of the blocks. Excellent pressure from the defensive trio of Hannah Ridling, Jenna O’Sullivan and Emily Patterson gained valuable possession, which was transitioned quickly onto attack. The attacking end of the court played with speed and accuracy. This was finished off by sharp shooting from Kelsey McPhee (21/22). Quarter score: 26-10 to WaiBOP.
In the second quarter, the WaiBOP onslaught continued. With excellent team defence, the pressure caused turnovers from the South team, which were quickly converted into points by McPhee and Harley Smith. WaiBOP extended their lead from the first quarter and half time saw them ahead by 21 goals. Half Time Score: 44-23
The third quarter saw three new players enter the game for the WaiBOP side with Khiarna Williams coming on to court at GS, Jaydi Taylor-Chaffey at WD and Georgia Tong at GK, with Ridling moving into GD. The changes did not halt the dominance that WaiBOP had on the game, with Williams carrying on the excellent shooting display from the first half of the game, shooting 15/17. Wilshier at Centre and Howe at WA continued their dominance on attack with impressive vision into the circle. Three Quarter Score: 62-36
The last quarter saw Taylor-Chaffey switch into WA. McPhee return to the court at GA, O’Sullivan into GD and Patterson into WD. WaiBOP showed that they were determined to have a full 60-minute performance, and continued to play with both high intensity and determination, both on attack and defence, finishing the game, scoring 20/21 attempts for the quarter.
