On Sunday 17th August 2023, Netball Rotorua Centre hosted our annual Netball Waikato Bay of Plenty Zone Secondary School Tournament. It was a fantastic day of netball, where school teams were able to compete against other schools from across the Zone and prepare for the upcoming Upper North Island Secondary Schools (UNISS) tournament later this month.

Present on the day were six of our WBOP Zone talent selectors, led by Player Pathways Lead Rachel Davis and supported by Avis Magic Head Coach Mary-Jane Araroa, identifying players for pathway opportunities including Magic in the Making Development Days to be held in October.

Kim Hunt, WBOP Coach Lead, and three other Coach Developers from across the Zone were on the ground supporting coaches and providing coach observations upon request. We also had Pam Clayton, WBOP Umpire Lead, and local Umpire Coach Developers, led a panel of Umpire Coaches and they all supported umpires throughout the day.

Nick Burton, NetballSmart Development Officer, was onsite to support teams, and Leigh Ashton, Relationship Manager, and Natalie Kelly, Community Projects, also both attended in support of the personnel from Netball Rotorua Centre who ran the day.

A huge thank you to the team at Netball Rotorua Centre - Freda, Rose, Kimiora, Gail, Lynda, Rochelle, Helen, Raewyn, Jacinta and other supporting volunteers – for all of your hard work contributing to this wonderful day of netball.
