Netball Waikato Bay of Plenty (NWBOP) is one of New Zealand’s five Netball Zones, focused on leading, supporting, and growing the sport across a region that spans both urban centres and rural communities. Our purpose is to strengthen a connected and capable netball system by working with centres to increase participation, supporting their staff, volunteers, players, coaches, and officials, and providing development opportunities and pathways across the Zone.  There is a collaborative relationship with the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic, but the Board is not responsible for the Team.

There are approximately 27,000 netballers, coaches, umpires, and officials located throughout the regions of Waikato, Bay of Plenty and Gisborne. NWBOP connects and works with 23 Netball Centres and participants throughout the Zone to support and develop the delivery network for Netball to meet the needs of local communities.

NWBOP is entering an exciting new chapter. After a period under the administration of Netball New Zealand, the Zone is now financially sustainable, thriving, and ready to return to independent governance. We are seeking two visionary and committed independent Board Members who are eager to guide the Zone into its next phase of growth. They will join a Board of two elected Board Members, and one NNZ-appointed Board Member. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of netball in our region, strengthen community impact, and contribute to a high‑performing, future‑focused organisation.

What You’ll Do - As a Board Member, you will:

  • Provide strategic leadership to guide the future of community Netball across Waikato, Bay of Plenty and Tairawhiti.
  • Ensure strong governance and financial stewardship.
  • Support the organisation to deliver high‑quality community and development programmes.
  • Champion safe, inclusive, and equitable netball environments.
  • Strengthen relationships with Centres, iwi, schools, clubs, and partners.

Who We’re Looking For - We welcome applicants with:

  • Governance or senior leadership experience.
  • Strong strategic and analytical skills.
  • A passion for community sport and positive impact.
  • Experience in finance, law, HR, commercial partnerships or Māori engagement.

You don’t need to be a netball expert — just someone who believes in the power of sport to strengthen communities.

Why Join NWBOP?

  • Make a meaningful contribution to thousands of players, coaches, umpires, and volunteers.
  • Work alongside passionate, skilled Board colleagues.
  • Support a region rich in culture, diversity, and sporting pride
